[20091101] Post-doc position at Institut Néel, CNRS, Grenoble, France

Post-Doc Position at Institut Néel, CNRS, Grenoble, France
in the "Structure and properties of materials. Extreme conditions" group

Subject: "High Pressure Synthesis of new iron based superconductors. Study of their structural and physical properties"

Applications are invited for a 1-year postdoctoral position at Institut Néel, in Grenoble, France, to start by 1st october (or 1st november) 2009.

The main role of this position is (1) to synthesize new iron based superconductors (in polycrystalline and single crystal forms), in particular at high pressure - high temperature using a large volume press, (2) study their crystallographic structures versus temperature or pressure and (3) study of the relationship with their magnetic or superconducting properties.

The contract could be renewed for a second year.

The project is funded by the french ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche).

The successful applicant will have a strong background in material science or solid state chemistry and physics, and crystallography.

Experience of using large volume press apparatus (for the elaboration) or diamond anvil cell (for the structural studies under pressure) would be advantageous.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a relevant area of condensed matter physics and chemistry or materials science.

He/she will be involved in studies using synchrotron radiation (x-ray diffraction or x-ray absorption), neutron diffraction or Raman spectroscopy versus temperature or pressure.

Applicants should be enthusiastic and self-motivated.

The closing date for applications is 30 october 2009.
