I am a former student of Professor Ashcroft's at Cornell University, about forty five years ago. Professors Geoffrey Chester and Neil Ashcroft were my thesis mentors, to whom I am much indebted. It is with great sadness to learn that Professor Ashcroft has also passed away. Professor Ashcroft has played a significant role in my education as a theoretical physicist and will be long remembered and appreciated.
