The Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution for Science (Carnegie), seeks applications for one postdoctoral associate in the field of high pressure synchrotron research at the HPCAT facility at the Advanced Photon Source, Argonne National Laboratory. As a dedicated high-pressure synchrotron facility, HPCAT has developed an array of x-ray diffraction, x-ray spectroscopy, and x-ray imaging techniques suited for high-pressure research. Successful candidates will work with the HPCAT team in materials research using x-rays, together with the new development of high-pressure x-ray techniques such as multigrain crystallography, high-energy diffraction microscopy, and/or time resolved techniques.
The appointment is for one year, with possibility for a second year pending the progress and availability of funds. The position is available immediately, and will remain open until it is filled.

(*) Minimum qualifications: A PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or a related field is required at the time of appointment. Successful candidates are expected to be able to work in both independent and collaborative group environments.

(*) Desired qualifications: A strong background in crystallography will be strongly favored. Research experience in high-pressure materials science and good skills in scientific software and diamond anvil cell technology will be considered advantages.
