[20130315] Malcolm F. Nicol Graduate Scholarship in High Pressure Science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA

In honor of Malcolm F. Nicol’s outstanding contributions to high pressure science, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas announces the establishment of the Malcolm F. Nicol Graduate Scholarships in high pressure science, at UNLV’s High Pressure Science and Engineering Center (HiPSEC, a DOE/NNSA Center of Excellence).  The scholarships will be awarded to highly competitive graduate students who are in pursuing a PhD in high pressure research in the areas of physics, geoscience, chemistry, and materials science.  The MFN fellowships carry a stipend of $30,000/year as well as full tuition and fees.

HiPSEC is an interdisciplinary research center composed of faculty, research staff, postdoctoral fellows and students from departments within the UNLV College of Sciences.  HiPSEC enjoys dedicated synchrotron beam time at sector 16 of the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Lab.  Experimental capabilities include shock wave, diamond anvil cell, large volume apparatus and hydrothermal bombs as well as a computational cluster with access to super computing facilities. Interested students are encouraged to contact HiPSEC faculty ( http://hipsec.unlv.edu/people ) to discuss potential PhD research projects.
