[20110221] Post-doc fellowship at Department of Physics, University of Aveiro, Portugal

Applications are open for the allocation of 1 post-doc fellowship, under the project “High-pressure synthesis and structure determination of novel nanostructured materials”, PTDC/FIS/104310/2008, from Physics Department and Associate Laboratory CICECO - Center for Research in Ceramics and Composite Materials of Aveiro's University.

1. Duration and Conditions of Activity:

The fellowship has the duration of 12 months, extendable for additional 12 months, scheduled to start on 1rst Mars 2010, on an exclusive basis, in accordance with regulations for Advanced Training of Human Resources FCT (http://www.fct.mctes.pt/pt/apoios/formacao/ambitoprojectos) and the Regulation of Scientific Research Grants from the University of Aveiro - Order of 13 April of the Rector, published in the Official Gazette by decree No. 9887/2005 (2nd series) of 3 May.

2. Purpose of Activity:

The research project will be centered in the use of high-pressure techniques as a preparative tool to create novel nanostructured materials. The structure of the prepared materials will be determined by x-ray diffraction. The initial stage of this project involves the installation and full-operation of a large-volume “Paris-Edinburgh” press.

3. Scientific Orientation:

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with Prof. Leonel Marques Joaquim.

4. Education:

The candidate should hold a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or related disciplines. Previous experience in x-ray diffraction materials characterization is necessary and experience in high-pressure techniques will be highly appreciated.

5. Remuneration:

1495€/month (free of charges). The periodicity of the fellowship's payment is monthly and through bank transfer.

6. Documents of Candidature:

Applications must contain the following documents:
-Detailed Curriculum Vitae
-Copy of the PhD degree certificate
-Copy of identity card or passport
-Cover letter and, at least, two reference contacts
Applications should be sent by e-mail to Prof. Leonel Marques Joaquim (lmarques@ua.pt). Alternatively, the documents should be sent to Prof. Leonel Marques Joaquim, Departamento de Física, Universidade de Aveiro, 3810-193 Aveiro, Portugal.
The result of the selection process will be announced by e-mail.

7. Opening date and deadline for applications:

The deadline to submit applications will be from 21st January to 21st February 2011.

8. Avaliation’s Criteria:

The criteria for assessing applications are:
-Curriculum Vitae
-Previous experience on diffraction techniques and high-pressure techniques

9. Jury:

The panel responsible for selection will consist of:
- Prof. Doutor Leonel Marques Joaquim
- Prof. Doutor Ricardo Dias
- Prof. Doutor Luís Carlos
