Post-Doctoral Fellow Position at the Mineral Physics Lab, Department of Geological Sciences, the University of Texas at Austin

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position in the Mineral Physics Laboratory at the Department of Geological Sciences, Jackson School of Geosciences, the University of Texas at Austin. The
position is funded by the Energy Frontier Research in Extreme Environments (EFree) Center of the Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs), in which the UT Austin is an active partner. Candidates should have a strong experience and knowledge in high-pressure diamond-anvil cell techniques, synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopic techniques, and optical spectroscopic systems such as Brillouin spectroscopy. Knowledge in high-pressure elasticity and inelastic X-ray scattering (IXS) will be first considered. Candidates are expected to regularly travel to synchrotron radiation centers such as the Advanced Photon Source to conduct high pressure-temperature experiments to investigate novel materials properties relevant to
mineral physics and condensed matter physics. The initial appointment for the position is for one year, but is expected to be renewed for the second year. The annualized salary is $50,000. Evaluation of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The preferred starting date is July 1st, 2010.
