Altair Sória PereiraAltair Sória Pereira
Altair Sória Pereira is Professor at the Materials Engineering Department and at the Materials Science Post-graduation Program, and a senior researcher of the High Pressure and Advanced Materials Research Group at the Physics Institute of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. His main research interest is on Materials Physics, especially on the experimental study of materials under high pressure,  including structural phase transitions, synthesis and sintering of high hardness materials, high pressure instrumentation (small and big volume apparatus), analysis by x-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and evaluation of mechanical properties. He received his PhD degree from UFRGS (1995), served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Laboratoire de Physico-Chimie de Matériaux du CNRS (from 1996 to 1997), and between 2005 and 2007 performed activities as a visiting professor at the Université de Montpellier 2. He was co-chairperson of the AIRAPT27 Conference held in Rio in 2019, when he was elected Member of the AIRAPT Executive Committee. Email: altair@if.ufrgs.br.
