[20180301] Beamline Scientist Position at HPCAT at the Advanced Photon Source

The Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution for Science (Carnegie), seeks applications for
one Beamline Scientist in the field of high pressure synchrotron research at the High Pressure
Collaborative Access Team (HPCAT) facility at the Advanced Photon Source, Argonne National
Laboratory.

One beamline scientist position is open for application at the High Pressure Collaborative Access
Team (HPCAT) at the Advanced Photon Source (APS), Argonne National Laboratory. HPCAT
operates Sector 16 at the APS, where four simultaneously operational beamlines have been
developed and established with an array of x-ray probes optimized for high-pressure research
using x-ray diffraction, x-ray spectroscopy, and x-ray imaging techniques. Among other
programs at HPCAT, one major area for the Beamline Scientist is the high-pressure synchrotron
research using Paris-Edinburgh presses. The responsibilities of the beamline scientist include
developing and integrating novel high-pressure synchrotron techniques, supporting user
programs, and conducting independent researches.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, Earth science, or a
related field. The Beamline Scientist position requires a minimum of two-years work experience
after Ph.D. at synchrotron beamlines and/or high-pressure laboratories. The successful candidate
is expected to have an outstanding research and development record as well as the ability to
attract research funding and foster collaborative initiatives. Applicants need to excellent relevant
computer skills, organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, and be able to
work effectively both as a team player and independently. Experience in Paris-Edinburgh press
and other high-pressure devices is desirable.

Interested parties can submit an application with a cover letter, curriculum vita, research
interests, a list of publications, and names of at least three references, via the Carnegie website.
Only complete applications submitted via this Carnegie website will be considered. The search
will start immediately and will continue until the position is filled. To submit an application,
