The Department of Geosciences at Stony Brook University invites applications for a Beamline Technical Officer who will work with National Synchrotron Light Source staff to develop hardware and software tools to support SBU user science. We seek a candidate with the potential to augment or build upon one or more of the department’s current research strengths in synchrotron science and powder x-ray diffraction in particular; the science to be pursued is wide ranging and includes high pressure studies, materials science, physics and chemistry. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in physical sciences and/or engineering or closely related experimental field at the time of appointment and preference will be given to those with related experience in working at national synchrotron facilities. The successful candidate must also have experience in developing software and hardware at user facilities, with preference given to those applicants with a proven track record of dealing with complex tasks in a highly regulated environment.
