[20121001] Post-doc in Mineral Physics (ANR “Mantle Rheology”), Lille, France

The group Mineral Physics of the Unité Matériaux Et Transformations (UMET: http://umet.univ-lille1.fr/ ), a CNRS laboratory at the Université Lille 1 in France, seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar in the framework of the ANR project “Mantle Rheology”. The prospective recipient will be working at UMET, and will carry out high-pressure experiments at synchrotron facilities (NSLS, ESRF). The successful candidate holds a PhD or equivalent degree in Mineral Physics or related areas (Materials Science, Experimental Mineralogy, etc.) and has demonstrated knowledge in high pressure techniques, in particular in using solid-medium apparatuses. A previous experience at synchrotron facilities (X-ray diffraction) is desirable. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) training could also benefit the project, using the laboratory TEM facility to investigate run-product microstructures.

The position is a full-time, 12-month appointment. The preferred start date is October 1st, 2012, or later this fall. The position responsibilities are primarily focused on investigating the effect of pressure on the rheology of upper-mantle minerals using the Deformation-DIA apparatus, and integrating the results into multi-scale modeling of upper-mantle plasticity.
