Postdoctoral Research Associate – Properties of magmas at extreme conditions
Job Profile: One European Research Council-funded fixed-term postdoctoral appointment is available for 3 years (PDRA) to work at the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions (CSEC), School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Edinburgh. This cross-disciplinary project between Geosciences and Physics will employ state-of-the-art high-pressure high-temperature experimental techniques to investigate the properties of silicate melts, i.e. magmas, at depth.
PDRA – three-year experimental post
The candidate will acquire expertise in a suite of in situ high pressure and high temperature techniques (large volume presses and diamond-anvil cells) essentially at X-ray synchrotron radiation facilities. The candidate will also be expected to participate in sample preparation and Raman spectroscopy experiments in house. CSEC is a multidisciplinary environment (Physics, Chemistry, Geosciences, Biology and Engineering) with long-term research goals in the fundamental properties of materials, new materials and planetary materials.
