[20111231] Post-Doc position in Computational Physics at Rome "La Sapienza", Italy

A one year post-doc position, with one-year possible extension, is available in the Computational Physics Group led by Professor G. Ciccotti at the
Physics Department of University of Rome "La Sapienza" (http://abaddon.phys.uniroma1.it/). The position is available to start immediately (June 2011) and will remain open until filled, but not beyond December 2011. The research fellow will be involved in an ongoing project on the investigations of the phase diagram of high pressure hydrogen and other light elements by ab-initio simulation methods. The project involves the use and development of ab-initio Molecular Dynamics, Path Integral Monte Carlo and Coupled Electron-Ion Monte Carlo methods to study the low temperature crystalline phases and the
metal-insulating transition under pressure both in the solid and in the liquid phases. The project is in the framework of a long term collaboration between the host group, the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (USA) and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories (LLNL).

Recent publications related to the project are
- M.A. Morales, C. Pierleoni, E. Schwegler and D.M. Ceperley, PNAS 108, 12799 (2010)

The successful candidate should have a PhD in Physics or Chemistry, a solid background in condensed matter and an acquired skill in computational methods for electronic structure calculations.

Interested candidates are encouraged to send their CV, together with two reference letters, to Prof. Carlo Pierleoni (carlo.pierleoniATroma1.infn.it). He can also be contacted to discuss details of the project and position.
