The Laboratoire de physique des solides denses (LPSD) at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Canada is seeking a candidate to fill a post‐doctoral research position. The candidate is expected to carry out experimental research work in the area of materials under extreme conditions with a particular emphasis on dense energetic materials.

Tasks

As a member of a research group on dense energetic materials, the candidate will carry out research on nitrogen‐rich dense materials under extreme conditions. The candidate will be responsible for experimental verification of results obtained by computer simulations.

Profile

The candidates should hold a recent doctoral degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science with a demonstrated experience with the most of the following experimental techniques: laser light scattering (Raman and Brillouin spectroscopy), single crystal and powder X‐ray diffraction using synchrotron radiation, high‐pressure/diamond anvil cell techniques, laser heating, as well general optical and electron microscopy techniques. Candidates should have proven knowledge of computer use in a research environment, with skills in data acquisition and advanced data analysis. Candidates are expected to travel to large‐scale synchrotron radiation facilities on a regular basis. The candidate should be expected to work independently on scientifically and technically challenging problems and also enjoy collaborative research work. The candidate should be an enthusiastic, self‐motivated researcher and be a good team worker. Good judgment, clear sense of organization, and accountability are expected from the candidate. Finally the candidate is expected to possess excellent communication and writing skills in English. Knowledge of French would be an asset.
